If winter's chill is putting a freeze on your mood, this story will warm your heart. After being rescued from a puppy farm, a Border Collie named Bear is now devoted to caring for his deaf sister Honey, who was also recently rescued.
Honey and Bear are brother and sister, both rescued from a puppy farm by Beagle Rescue Victoria in Australia. Honey's a double merle, born deaf and with vision problems. Bear's always been right by her side, helping her navigate the world.
'Everyone should have a Bear in their life,' wrote one emotional commenter on the viral TikTok video showing Bear lovingly looking after Honey.
The sweet pups also highlight the sad reality of puppy farms, also known as puppy mills. These large-scale breeding facilities often force female dogs to breed continuously with little rest between litters. Puppies are commonly kept in small, cramped cages for the sole purpose of breeding for profit.
While these dogs were rescued by an Australian organization, puppy farms are still largely legal in the United States if animals are kept in semi-humane conditions. Millions of dogs enter animal shelters each year, offering people an ethical way to give dogs like Honey and Bear a second chance at a loving life.
'If you're thinking about getting a dog, please consider rescue,' wrote their adopter Kelly Dinham. 'Organizations like Beagle Rescue Victoria have given these three and many more dogs a second chance.'
Their aunt Violet is also in their life now. She spent four years in a cage before being adopted, and Honey and Bear followed a few years later.
Bear's devotion to his sister is a beautiful reminder of the love and loyalty animals are capable of—and the second chances they deserve.
