In an incredible breakthrough for marine conservation, marine biologists and environmental engineers have successfully begun deploying a newly discovered, naturally-occurring enzyme that rapidly breaks down microplastics in seawater.
Turning the Tide on Pollution
Initial field tests conducted in the Pacific Ocean demonstrate that the enzyme can break down complex polymer chains into harmless, naturally digestible components within days. Crucially, the process has shown zero negative impact on local marine wildlife.
Governments and major environmental NGOs are already coordinating a large-scale global rollout, aiming to drastically reduce the concentration of microplastics in our oceans over the next decade.
