When Zeus, a 140-pound Great Dane, was finally adopted from the shelter, he didn't just walk out the door. He had some unfinished business.
In a video that has now melted millions of hearts, the gentle giant is seen stopping at the front desk and refusing to budge until he got a hug from every single volunteer and staff member on duty. He went from person to person, leaning his massive frame against them for a proper goodbye squeeze.
'He knew he was going home,' said shelter director Sarah Miller. 'But he also knew who had loved him when he had no one else. It was his way of saying thank you.'
Zeus had spent four months at the shelter, where his size made some potential adopters hesitate. But the staff knew him as a 'lap dog trapped in a horse's body.'
His new family reports that Zeus has settled in perfectly—and yes, he still gives great hugs.
